Justin Thomas says he no longer hears the question, though he hasn’t exactly answered it. Prior to June of 2022, he’d won often. In May of that year, he won the PGA Championship for his second major. Before that, he’d won 14 other times. But then? Nothing. And folks have wondered why, though it seems some have moved on.
“I’m sick of getting asked,” Thomas said Friday. “I almost feel like I’m kind of past the point where fortunately you all have stopped asking me, which is nice, but I would also prefer to get that over with.
“I think it’s just that’s something I feel like I did so, so well there for a couple of years is I just let tournaments come to me and I just trusted in my ability. That’s just really been my key this week is I’m just trying to really trust my game and commit to what I’m doing.
“I have a lot of faith and confidence in what I can do. So I just need to let it happen.”
Sunday, he’ll have a chance. After shooting a 69 during Saturday’s third round, he enters the RBC Heritage’s final round one shot behind leader Si Woo Kim, and he’ll play in the penultimate pairing that tees off at 1:45 p.m. ET.
“I played well,” Thomas said of Saturday, “but it was very easily, with some chips here, some putts there, it very easily could have been a couple over. I just fought and tried to stay patient and then was able to salvage a score to where I’m right there tomorrow.”
