Don’t sleep on the importance of a good, clean, tacky golf grip. It can make a world of difference and make your grips last even longer, meaning you can save money without having to replace them. Look at it this way too: have you ever thought of just how gross your grips are? They are filled with dirt, sweat, sunscreen and lots of other junk. Kind of disgusting, right?
So if you are looking for ideas on how to clean your golf grips, we have you covered.
How to clean your golf club grips
Fill a bucket with dish soap and warm water and dip either a cloth or soft brush into the mixture. (If your grips are really dirty, elect for the brush, but usually a cloth does just fine.) Take the brush or cloth and scrub your grip for a good 30 seconds, then rinse it under water or dip it in a non-soapy bucket. Grab a fresh towel and dry the grip. Easy, right?
We should note, there are people who include Windex into this process. While it’s not completely necessary, some swear it adds extra tackiness. You can spray the Windex into a damp towel and rub it on the grips after you initially clean them to see if you like the result better. Or, if you want to skip the whole bucket-and-soap-mixture process, just go directly to the Windex for a quick fix.
That’s it! We won’t bore you with other random options to clean your grips because, well, we have found this one works the best. It’s easy and it works. Don’t make things complicated.
When it’s time to buy new golf club grips
However, if your grips are ripped or old or you’ve had them long enough where even cleaning them isn’t really helping them stay sticky and tacky, you can alway invest in new grips for your set. There are ways to do that yourself — you can shop golf grips via Fairway Jockey here — but if you are kind of lazy like me, just take them in to your local golf shop and they will have that done in no time. Some grips are much more expensive than others, but either way it won’t break the bank.
