Walker Cup Sunday Foursomes tee times: What to know
After an electric comeback down the stretch by mid-amateur Stuart Grehan against WGAR No. 1 Preston Stout, Great Britain and Ireland is on the verge of its first Walker Cup win in 11 years.
On paper, the U.S. team should dominate the matches with nine of the top 12 players in the Men’s World Amateur Golf Ranking on the time and winners of the last five Walker Cups.
But behind a strong home crowd, the brilliant play of Grehan, the home team is ahead by a point after the first day of the two-day event. Luke Poulter also defeated Miles Russell and Niall Sheils Donegan overcame an awkward early-scoop moment in the morning session to be the only player on either side to go 2-0 on the day.
Both Grehan and Sheils Donegan will be back at it again Sunday morning. Grehan will take on Stout again and Ethan Fang alongside Eliot Baker in Sunday morning’s foursomes session first match. Sheils Donegan will pair with Josh Hill against William Jennings and Ryder Cowan in the anchor match.
