Rory McIlroy missed the fairway with his opening tee shot, to which Max Homa quipped “that frees me up so much, thank you.” Then Max missed the fairway by even more, which led to a cheeky “I don’t even know where that is” from Rose Zhang. Both Lexi and Rose ripped drives down the fairway. Let’s party, folks. The smack talk is getting started early.
Rory had to punch his ball up the fairway from just outside a bunker and then missed the green with his approach. Max just missed a tree and approached the green with a layup in the fairway. Rose ripped a hybrid off the back of the green which led Lexi to club down and knock an iron onto the green.
Rory’s birdie putt from the fringe missed and then Lexi launched her eagle putt past the cup. Rose sank her birdie putt to put the pressure on Lexi, who missed despite a plea from Max to “please make it.” No matter, Max made his putt to tie the hole and push the $100,000 skin to the second hole.
