The Miami Dolphins have been confirmed as hosts for the first NFL game to be played in Spain next season.

Madrid’s Bernabeu stadium had already been named as the venue, with the Dolphins announced as the designated ‘home’ team on Friday.

That follows confirmation that the Indianapolis Colts will host the first regular-season game to be held in Berlin in 2025.

“The exciting first-ever game in Spain underlines the NFL’s continued commitment to expanding its global footprint and reaching new audiences across the world,” said the NFL’s head of Europe, Brett Gosper.

Madrid and Berlin are the latest host cities for the NFL’s international series, joining regular hosts London, with five overseas games so far confirmed for the 2025 season, matching the previous high.

The dates and opposition for those games will be announced when the full 2025 NFL schedule is revealed this spring.

“There is a hunger for football in this market [Spain], and we are proud to join with the NFL in growing the game internationally while engaging with old and new fans alike,” said Miami Dolphins chief executive Tom Garfinkel.

“With the unique synergy between Miami and Madrid, we believe this is only the beginning for us in this incredible region.”

London will again stage three NFL games in 2025, with the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars the home teams, but there could be as many as eight international games next season.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell also “expects” to return to Brazil and Mexico, with a first game in Ireland “a possibility”.

Further announcements on international games are expected from the NFL next month.
