Twenty-year-old South African Aldrich Poitgieter entered Saturday’s third round with a four-shot cushion after firing a second-round 61.
But Potgieter was unable to extend his lead during the third round as Brian Campbell shot a bogey-free 64 to cut the gap to one entering the final round.
Potgieter sits at 20-under-par, with Campbell right behind him at 19-under and Stephan Jaeger three shots back. Alex Smalley is five shots back in fourth place.
The long-bombing prodigy will look to stick to his gameplan at Vidanta Vallarta and put the finishing touches on his first-career PGA Tour win.
Meanwhile, the 31-year-old Campbell will begin the final round in the top five for the first time in his PGA Tour career. Once a star amateur at Illinois, Campbell has spent the last eight years on the Korn Ferry Tour before re-earning his card last year after finishing seventh in the standings. He is one round away from completing a storybook golfing comeback.
