Tiger Woods has been quiet on the golf course recently as he recovers from his latest surgery.

But Charlie Woods is making more noise than ever.

The son of the 15-time major champion captured his first American Junior Golf Association victory last week. And the big win didn’t just earn him plaudits, it resulted in a massive jump up the junior golf rankings.

Heading into the Team TaylorMade Invitational tournament at Florida’s Streamsong Resort, Woods had never won an AJGA event. He started this one slow and steady with a 70 in the first of three rounds.

But then the younger Woods went off. He followed a second-round 65 with a final-round 66 to finish at 15 under, good enough for a three-shot victory.

Charlie Woods’ golf ranking leap

Knowing who Charlie’s father is, you might not be surprised to hear that the younger Woods won a junior golf event. But with a little context, the magnitude of his win comes into focus.

Not only was Woods previously winless in AJGA events but he also began the Team TaylorMade event ranked No. 609 in the AJGA Boys Rankings, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Making matters more difficult was that the fact that he was competing against 70 other top juniors at the event, including the players ranked No. 1, No. 5 and No. 7.

But Charlie beat them all. As a result, his ranking skyrocketed. In the latest release this week. Woods leapt 595 places all the way to No. 14 in the AJGA Boys Rankings.

Tiger Woods’ current world ranking

The last time we saw Charlie tee it up with Tiger in competition was at December’s PNC Championship. The father-son duo has played the event for several years now, but the 2024 event saw their best finish yet.

Charlie and Tiger teamed up to shoot a 59 on Saturday. In Sunday’s final round, Charlie made his first hole-in-one, and eventually Team Woods finished knotted at the top of the leaderboard with Bernhard and Jason Langer. The Woods men lost in a playoff, but both players were buoyed by the results.

For Tiger, it was his first appearance in what was expected to be a return to pro golf in 2025. But Woods suffered another injury and has not made a start this season.

Because he’s played so little over the past few years, Woods has plummeted down the Official World Golf Ranking. He holds the record for most weeks ranked No. 1, but he’s fallen all the way down to No. 1,460 in the latest ranking.
