Great Britain’s women and men both earned wins which secured their places at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

GB’s women beat Ireland 2-1 in the FIH qualifiers bronze-medal match in Valencia, with both sides needing to win to qualify for the Games.

Sarah Jones and Katie Robertson put GB 2-0 up before Hannah McLoughlin scored a late consolation for Ireland.

In Oman, GB’s men beat New Zealand 3-1 in the qualifier semi-finals to secure their spot in Paris.

Phil Roper put Britain in front against the Kiwis when he took down a lofted ball and lashed in a shot.

Sam Ward powered in two strikes from penalty corners either side of Kane Russell scoring from a New Zealand penalty corner.

Britain had to deal with five minutes with one less player during the last quarter following a yellow card but maintained their two-goal lead to close out the win and set up a final against Germany on Sunday.

“It’s a fantastic day for GB hockey. The girls winning earlier was amazing and then us doing it now,” said Ward.

“It’s nice not having to play the third/fourth play-off.”

New Zealand will play Pakistan on Sunday, with the winner qualifying for the Olympics.
