The Paralympic Games came to an end with India winning their best-ever medal tally of 29 medals. The sporting action in September continues in full speed, which you can check out in our 2024 sporting calendar.


What’s on today?

  • Hockey: India will take on Malaysia in their third match at the Asian Champions Trophy in China.

  • Chess: The 2024 Chess Olympiad begins, with around 190 countries taking part and India fielding a strong team in the open and women’s section.

  • Badminton: The Hong Kong Open Super 500 is underway. India’s top stars are yet to return to action after the Olympics but others are participating.

  • Swimming: The 77th Senior National Aquatic Championships 2024 continues in Mangaluru.


What happened yesterday?

  • Football: The AIFF imposed a four-month suspension on India international Anwar Ali after finding the defender “guilty” of illegally terminating his four-year contract with Mohun Bagan who are also eligible for a huge compensation of Rs 12.90 crore.

  • Athletics: Avinash Sable made it to his Diamond League Final, joining star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra in the season-ending event.

  • Badminton: Treesa-Gayatri start Hong Kong Open Super 500 with a win; Chirag Senn loses in qualification

  • Paralympics gold winners get Rs 75 lakh, silver and bronze medallists Rs 50 lakh and Rs 30 lakh.

  • Swimming: Karnataka’s Hashika breaks 13-year old record in 400m freestyle

  • Hockey: FIH president Tayyab Ikram said they will resume bilateral contests between India and Pakistan “tomorrow” if given a choice, as the storied rivalry makes the sport stronger.
