With a potential Ryder Cup captain’s pick lurking in the back of his mind, Patrick Reed fired an opening round of five-under 67 to match his 4Aces GC teammate Harold Varner III at the top of the leaderboard after Round 1.
The two players are hoping to lead their team — which also includes captain Dustin Johnson and Thomas Pieters — to its first win since 2023.
Just behind Reed and Varner is Jon Rahm (-4), who is in the midst of an impressive streak. The 30-year-old Spaniard has finished T9 or better in every single event this season, and is well-positioned to add to that tally in Dallas.
After Rahm, it’s Abe Ancer (-3) and five other players tied at two under. Joaquin Niemann, a four-time winner this season, shot 78, while Bryson DeChambeau is currently T13 at even par.
